Land4Rent was founded in early 2025 in Sturgeon County, Alberta, by Spencer Tighe, a lifelong Albertan with deep roots in agriculture and agri-business. Growing up around farming families and rural communities, Spencer was exposed early to the realities of farmland ownership both the pride it carries and the complexity that comes with it.
Over the years, he witnessed numerous family disputes tied to land: disagreements over fair rent, unclear expectations, succession challenges, and misaligned incentives between owners and operators. In many cases, these issues weren’t the result of bad actors on either side, but of limited information, outdated processes, and the absence of transparent, neutral tools to guide decision-making. Those situations left lasting impressions and sparked a simple but persistent question: why is something so foundational to rural families and food production still managed in such an informal, opaque way?
With decades of personal and family experience in farming and agri-business, Spencer has seen firsthand the challenges landowners and farmers face when renting and managing farmland especially as operations scale, generations change, and financial pressures increase. Land4Rent was created to bring clarity, fairness, and structure to this process.
The Land4Rent platform connects landowners and farmers through transparent, data-driven farmland rental auctions and comprehensive lease agreements, helping both parties establish clear expectations and make informed, confident decisions. Spencer has assembled a multidisciplinary team with expertise in agriculture, technology, law, finance, software development, marketing, and data science to ensure Land4Rent is a simple, secure, and professional tool designed to support long-term farmland stewardship and productive farming relationships.
